Howard MacKinnonNice shot (Ingonish River Snowshoe-see attached) Vince these folks stayed at our cottages (Knotty Pines) they were great!” (February 21)

Thanks so much Vince! It was a great day, and everything went so well. Hopefully it continues to get bigger and better for years to come. Thank you for you support, and I look forward to working with you again” - Cyril MacDonald - 5th Annual JJ McDermott Long John Jaunt 2016 held Ross Ferry, Victoria County

Hi, Last February (2016) our group stayed at Knotty Pines in Ingonish for a weekend of snowshoeing, cross country skiing and outdoor activities. We were fortunate to take in a snowshoe hike with your organization. We thoroughly enjoyed it. We are planning another such weekend for February 17 2017. Is it possible that there is another such activity that weekend?” Cathy MacAulay-Spencer (December 5, 2016)

Residents & visitors participated and were active in winter fun during the 5th Annual ActiveFest with snowshoe hikes, downhill & cross-country skiing, entertainment, yoga, fitness, walking, luncheons, square dancing, skating, healthy eating & gardening sessions, after school activities, wellness rooms, ceilidhs and a whole lot held for the entire family - It was a great way to get out and enjoy winter!  (On the World Famous Cabot Trail: Victoria County is Nova Scotia’s Outdoor Winter Destination!)

Naturally Active Victoria County (Physical Activity Strategy) invited residents and visitors to beat the winter blues, “Take The Roof Off Winter” and “Make Room For Play” for you & your family, new & old friends, neighbors & co-workers during the very popular 5th Annual Victoria County Winter ActiveFest 2016.

Yoga, Drum and Dance

Big Bras d’Or Fire Hall

10:30 am - 12 pm

Provides yoga and drum workout that doesn’t need prior experience but requires participants desire to do simple movements to music. It’s designed for the participant to be able to workout while having fun, do basic yoga poses and keep a beat while moving in a facility that is open, clean, safe, friendly and spacious providing a desirable environment for conducting community activity

During the 90 minute program, the leader will introduce an activity that is comfortable and non-competitive focusing on breath and basic yoga asana performed to music. The second half of the program will be an active drumming session using chairs, drums and sticks. A Savasana will conclude the session. After the class, there will be an opportunity to socialize while drinking Chai Tea!

The activity will require a yoga mat and drum sticks which will be provided. Yoga poses will be simple and done slowly and safely. Drumming will involve basic dance steps to a drumbeat using drumsticks, drums and chairs. This style of yoga and drumming is unique and not done anywhere else in Cape Breton!

I know many cyclists also enjoy cross country skiing. The conditions on the Cape Breton Highlands have been very good to excellent. Every Saturday and Sunday morning, a group of us head for the Highlands to explore different areas. Our outings can last from a few hours to a full day (even multi day), depending on the group. If members of Velo Cape Breton want to keep informed about the snow conditions, they can visit our Facebook page here: www.facebook.com/skiCBhighlands or contact us

BoularderieOutdoorRinkVictoria, Subd. B-20130107-01529
• Building outdoor rinks is growing fast, taken on by more and more Canadians every year. In today’s fast-paced world, it is easy to forget to be active. Grab your family and friends, and build your own rink. Take the time to have fun–and be healthy while you’re at it.

• Brushes
• Hose
• Tarp (must be 2 feet wider and two feet longer than your actual rink)
• About 2 hours, plus freezing time before use
Safety Tips
• As with any and all outdoor activities in the winter, make sure you are dressed warmly and appropriately for the weather, with something to cover your head and ears, comfortable footwear, and layers of clothing.
• Make sure your rink is completely frozen before skating on it.
